Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born on May 25, 1994. She is a retired American artist gymnast. She was the leader of the 2012 "Fierce Five", and 2016 "Final Five,"" U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. She received an Olympic gold medal for team competitions during the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas as her teammate also won gold. Raisman also earned silver in the individual all-around and floor exercises. Raisman received silver medals for the individual all-around, and also for the floor exercise. She was also a two time national champion in floor exercises (2012 and 2015) as well as the 2012 champion of the national championship in balance beam. She also is an all-time champion of the national all-around competitions at national championships (silver and bronze in 2010 2011 and 2015). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on the 25th of May, 1994, in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), a former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman. She has three younger siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman who is Jewish she has said she takes a lot pride in the fact that she is able to represent the American people, but as well as the Jewish community throughout the world. Raisman started gymnastics at 18 months old. She credits her first love for the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold-medal-winning U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics and whose performance she observed on VHS.She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through the level 8 stage, when she moved to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School, 2012, after finishing her senior year online courses and training to compete in the Olympics.
