Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig, May 16 1937 from May 16, 1937 until August 17, 2015. Craig was an American dancer and actress who was popular for her performances as Batgirl in the 1960s' TV show Batman and Marta who played the Orion slave girl Marta as seen in Star Trek's episode "Whom Gods Deceive" (1969). The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer in female superheroes" for television. Yvonne Craig was born in Taylorville, Illinois, and was raised in Columbus, Ohio. Her family moved to Dallas in 1951. She was a student at W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School as well as W. H. Adamson High School. It was unfortunate that Craig didn't graduate since she had not received "one credits for PE". Craig was a part of Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as the most junior ballerina in the company after being recognized by Alexandra Danilova who is a dancer and instructor. It was a wonderful experience that enabled her to do stunts in the role of Batgirl. The ballet company she was with ended in 1957 "over disagreements over casting changes" and relocated to Los Angeles in the hopes of pursuing her dance career, but was being cast in films. Her first appearance was in an episode of the TV episode of Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later became the Batgirl's police commissioner James Gordon. Then, she appeared in three films - The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story and Gidget (all 1959)--and she also appeared in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig was seen with Bing Crosby and Seven Women from Hell (1960), in which she was cast alongside Cesar Romero. In 1962, she was a guest star in the television show Western Laramie in the episode "The Long Road Back".Craig was in roles alongside Elvis Presley in two films: It Happened at the World's Fair (1963) and Kissin' Cousins (1964). She also played an Russian dancer alongside James Coburn in Mars Needs Women (1966).
